Obituary of James Loyd Story
Funeral services for James L. Story, Sr., 86, of Turnertown will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton, with Reverend Josh Blizzard officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Joinerville.
Mr. Story passed away, Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in a Tyler hospital. He was born January 10, 1931, in Glenwood, Arkansas to the late Troy and Native Foshee Story. Mr. Story is a Veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He retired from General Motors where he worked for thirty years while living in Arlington. He moved back to East Texas to care for his parents and he served as a Past Post Commander of the VFW Post 8535 in Henderson. He was a caregiver to many members of his family and loved gardening. He was a very proud man and very generous with his time.
Besides his parents, Mr. Story was also preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Story, and a sister, Muriel Samples.
Survivors include two sons, James L. Story, Jr. and his wife, Donise of Seguin, and Phillip Story of Turnertown; a brother, Billy Joe Story of Santa Fe; a sister, Nancy Jordan and her husband, Al of The Woodlands; a brother-in-law, Jerry Humphries of Overton; two sisters-in-law, Olene Churchman of Edna and Gloria Jean Alden of Ft. Worth; a granddaughter, Jessica Echols and husband, Braden; two great grandchildren, Turner James Echols and Tatum Echols; his aunt, Desiree Mitchell of Longview and numerous nieces and nephews.
