Obituary of Mary White

Services for Mary White, 96, Troup, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Friday, March 30, at the First United Methodist Church, Troup, with the Reverend Mike Cline officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mrs. White died Wednesday, March 28, in a Troup nursing home. She was born December 9, 1910, in Point to the late Charlie V. Ray and Jimmie Rabb Ray. She was a graduate of Point High School and Wesley College, Greenville. She received her B.S. in Home Economics from Texas Women's University, Denton and her M.A. in Education from Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches. Mrs. White was a retired Home Economics teacher having taught for two years in Mt. Vernon, before moving to Troup in 1935 to found its Home Economics Department. She taught in Troup for 33 years. She married Robert F. White, Jr., August 18, 1937. He preceded her in death November  4, 1957. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan White, October 24, 2003. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Beth White, Troup; a grandson, Cody White, Troup; a sister, Charlcie Johnson, Point; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Wilson, Billy Slaughter, Joe McElroy, Bill Mowery, John Ashby, Rick Renson, and Jim Carlyle. Honorary Pallbearers will be R.J. and Navoleine Roddy, Nolan and Juanece Smith, Kathleen McElroy, Mike Johnson, Royce Peacock, Gerald Sadler and Freddie Hale,. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 29.
