Obituary of Maxine Williams Childress

         Maxine Williams Childress went to Heaven on Monday, May 29, 2017 after extended illnesses. Visitation will be Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup. Services will be Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Funeral Home with interment following at Concord Cemetery. Reverend Gerry Giles and Reverend Lewis Jones will officiate the service under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

         Maxine was born November 25, 1934 in Brumley Community in Upshur County and moved to Troup in 1940. She graduated from Troup High School in 1953. She was very involved in her high school reunions including the all school reunions. Maxine and David Lawrence Childress were married June 1, 1953. Maxine was a Christian lady who as a child attended Red Oak Flat Assembly of God. In later years, she attended Lake Tyler Baptist Church until her health no longer permitted.

         Maxine worked for 15 years at Southwestern Bell/ATT in Dallas. Then she and Lawrence started a Medicare Supplement Insurance Agency in Tyler. Which she ran after Lawrence’s death in 1982. Their agents were part of their family.

         Maxine did a lot of voluntary work including the American Cancer Society, MDA, Meals on Wheels, board of directors for the Union Grove Cemetery and was a benefactor of the Concord Cemetery.

         She gave so much to her friends and family. As the youngest sibling, she was the matriarch of her family. She took care of Everyone in her family. She so loved her family especially her mother Bessie Keel Williams, her brothers and sisters. Her children and their spouses, her nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her joy and pride. She loved them so much. Maxine also really enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing dominos and 2, eating and dancing.

         Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, David Lawrence Childress, her parents, Mack and Bessie Keel Williams, and siblings and their spouses, Jewel & Reynold Witcher, Bea & Monroe Sieber, A. Williams, and Ollie & Doris Williams.

         She is survived by her sister, Ruby Tupper Brown. She is also survived by her son, Larry Childress & wife Regina. Their children, Senior Airman Adam Childress, U.S. Air Force and Trevor Childress. Her daughter, Linde Belt & husband Richard, and their children, Waylon and Jennifer Wilder, Katrina Belt, and Ricky Belt. Her great-grandchildren could not have been more loved by Maxine. Stevie and Adler Wilder, Harliegh Rose Belt, Lillie Mae Yarnell, Jasmine Graham, Rosemary Chambers, and Chassity Belt. Special thanks to her caregivers who became part of our family; Mabel Tabor, Karen Norris, and Be Be Lane.

         Pallbearers will be Waylon Wilder, Trevor Childress, Jerald Williams, Andy Marshall, Billy Spillman, Roy Williams, and Dennis Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Senior Airman Adam Childress, U.S. Air Force, Zach Williams, Michael Berry, Chris Berry, the domino group and friends at Meals on Wheels.
