Obituary of Mary Ann Swan
Services for Mary Ann Swan, 69, Leverett's Chapel, will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Darwood Gallaway officiating. Private family burial will be at the Overton City Cemetary.
Ms. Swan died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in Longview surrounded by her family. She was born January 6, 1942, in Overton, to the late Bruce Dyer and Mary Evalyn Hindman Swan. She graduated Leverett's Chapel High School in 1960 and attended North Texas State University. She moved to Houston in 1964 where she worked for NASA, Hycel, and Standard Title. She moved back to the family home in Leverett's Chapel in 1994 and began work for Baker Hughes until her retirement in 2009. Mary Ann was a talented artist and enjoyed sewing, painting, and working with stained glass.
She also loved to travel and recently enjoyed a long-wished for trip to Hawaii. Growing up, Mary Ann attended Heart of the Hills Camp in Hunt, Texas. She modeled for Kennamer's, and played basketball and volleyball.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann is preceeded in death by infant brother Jimmie Joe Swan, and brother George "Sonny" Davis.
Survivors include sisters, Dee Swan and Jeanette Swan Lawrence, both of Leverett's Chapel; Niece, Sheryl Lawrence Slot, husband Marshall, and children, Bryson, Brianna, and Braden; Nephew, Erik Lawrence, wife Jennifer, and children Madison, Reese and Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Erik Lawrence, Marshall Slot, Bryson Slot, Doug Swan, Thomas Swan and Sandy Sands.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Braden Slot, Ron Palumbo, Larry White, Doug Smith, Gary Hetherington, Charlie Broadwater, Jim Mitchell, Paul Pearson, Mike Swan and Billy Vernon.
The Swan Family would like to express appreciation to Mrs. Dorothy Nelson, The Hospice of East Texas, and Beacon Hospice-Margaret' House for their loving care of Mary Ann during her illness.
