Obituary of L. W. 'Tink' Gilstrap
Funeral services for L. W. ‘Tink’ Gilstrap, 95, Overton will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wade Duck officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mr. Gilstrap passed away, Monday, April 3, 2017, in Overton. He was born August 11, 1921 in Snyder to the late Claude and Lydia Gilstrap. He is a veteran of the US Army Air Corp and served in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married June E. Tuttle October 4, 1947 in Laird Hill. He worked as a plant operator and retired from Halliburton in 1973, after being transferred to Utah. Following retirement they moved back to East Texas and have resided here in Overton. He and his wife purchased a motor home and have enjoyed spending time visiting the United States. He was a member of the Overton VFW and a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church were he served as deacon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to tinker and that is how he received his nickname ‘Tink’.
Besides his parents, Mr. Gilstrap was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, June Gilstrap of Overton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lonnie Gilstrap of Lake Palestine and Mark and B.J. Gilstrap of New Braunfels; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Gilstrap, Matt Gilstrap, Jason Gilstrap, Tim Hildebrand, Andrew Truong, and Randal Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, April 8, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
