Obituary of Jerry Wayne Johnson

Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Johnson, Sr, 70, of Troup, will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Troup Church of Christ with Bo Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home in Troup. Jerry passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 in Tyler at a hospice facility. He was born September 19, 1946 in Waurika, Oklahoma to the late Maurice Edward Johnson Sr. and Eva Jean Vaughn Johnson. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy, and served in the Vietnam War. He married Claire Nell Hawkins on June 16, 2001 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Jerry was a master electrician and a cattle rancher. He bowled on several different leagues and in his younger years, he was bull rider. Jerry was a member of the Troup Church of Christ and was very active in his church. Besides his father, he was also preceded in death by his first wife Vallery Johnson. Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Nell Johnson of Troup; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and George Loyer of Mikado, Michigan; his son, Jerry Wayne Johnson, Jr. of Kilgore; his mother, Eva Johnson of Troup; his step children, Lisa and Terry Lynn Brown of Chandler and Thomas Voyles of Tyler; his brother, Maurice Edward Johnson, Jr. of Valley View; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Jack Montgomery of Celina, Brenda Kenyon of Troup, and Debbie and Darrell Mitchell of Gainesville; 6 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Marshall Whiteley, Joey Scarborough, John “Bubba” Davis, Richard Leger, Don Hawkins and Terry Lynn Brown. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup Monday, April 3, 2017 from 5-7 pm.
