Obituary of Edith Juanita Bailey

Services for Edith Juanita Bailey, 98, Overton, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 in Tyler. She was born April 13, 1918 in Oil City, Louisiana to the late William and Lucy Holland Blankingship. She graduated Atlanta High School and moved to Overton in 1940. She was a member of the Overton Home Demonstration Club and volunteered for them by taking in her homemade cakes to Overton Health Care. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Overton. She loved to volunteer and enjoyed gardening. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved to keep her family close to her. Besides her parents, Mrs. Bailey was also preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas Long and Leonard Bailey, two sons, Thomas Jerry Long and Billy Joe Long; three brothers, Estel Blankingship, Everett Blankingship and Ernest Blankingship, and a step-daughter Alyssa Goforth. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and William Bumpass of Tyler; step-daughter, Sherry Dahl of Tallahassee, Florida, eight grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, at the funeral home.
