Obituary of Lonnie Ray Poole
Funeral services for Lonnie Ray Poole, 90, New London, will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, December 28 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dean Grisby officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens near Henderson.
Mr. Poole passed away, Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his residence in New London. He was born March 18, 1926 in Henderson to the late Lee M. and Ezzie Sloria Poole. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in the Rhineland Campaign and was wounded in the European Theater. He received the European-African-Middle East Theater Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, 1 Overseas Service Bar, and World War II Victory Medal. He married Nellie Ruth Lehman December 1, 1945 in Henderson and retired from Kilgore Ceramics after 30 years. He also worked as an oilfield driller for several oil companies. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon and his passions were fishing, gardening, family and church.
Besides his parents, Mr. Poole was also preceded in death by four brothers, Olen Poole, Oscar Poole, Bill Poole, and Joe Poole.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Nell Poole of New London; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Joye Poole of White Oak, and Donnie Poole of New London; a sister, Rueben Jean Dowden; a daughter and a son-in-law, Judy and Robby Hinton of New London; seven grandchildren and their spouses, David and Melanie Goodwin, Brad and Mandy Thomas, Tobbi and Jeffery Huffman, Kelly and Jay Brooks, Toby Teague, and Trey and Kristen Hinton; eighteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Poole, Jimmy Poole, Bruce Dowden, Tommy Poole, Brad Thomas, Jay Brooks, Jeffery Huffman, and Trey Hinton. Honorary pallbearer will be David Poole.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, prior to the funeral service.
