Obituary of Barney Danny Bigbie

Barney Danny Bigbie, 70, New London, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13 at his treasured lake house on Toledo Bend Reservoir. Funeral services will be held at London Baptist Church in New London, Texas on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Danny Loeffelholtz officiating. A private burial will be the following day, on Monday, October 17 at Memory Park Cemetery in Longview, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Danny was born on March 17, 1946, in Longview, Texas to Irene Marlowe and Barney Delbert Bigbie. Danny was an accomplished athlete in multiple sports with many accolades that included All State and All American honors in football his junior and senior years at London High School. He received over 40 scholarship offers across the country and ultimately committed to play football at The University of Texas for legendary coach Darrell Royal. Danny’s athletic success transitioned to the business world where he enjoyed careers in the oilfield industry, floor covering sales, and eventually as CEO, COO, head honcho, top dog, el numero uno and owner of East Texas Food Company where he thrived on trading 40,000 lb. truckloads of beef, chicken and fish to retailers all across the south. Danny had a true passion for hunting & fishing. He enjoyed being outdoors with friends and family and the two places he loved most were Caddo Lake and Toledo Bend. Cane pole fishing with a friend was an ideal day for Danny. His charismatic personality endured him to so many and he was a true entertainer no matter where he was. Along with his parents, Danny is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Floyd Stewart. Danny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Shaw Bigbie; son Jeff Bigbie and wife Martie, son Jason Bigbie and wife Carrie, and grandchildren Ashley Bigbie, Charlie Bigbie, Bailey Bigbie, Griffin Bigbie and Noah Bigbie, sister-in-law Linda Gentry and husband Charles, niece Jessica McCall and husband Michael, niece Natalie Gorman and husband Mike, and two great-nieces Meredith McCall and Lucy Gorman along with countless other family and dear friends. Pallbearers will be John Ament, Buddy Cheatham, Mike Childress, Pat Childress, Bill Collom, Troy Cooper, Jim Felkner, Pat Hogan and Jake Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1962-63 London Wildcat football team and Mr. John L. Green aka Caddo Toby.
