Obituary of Roy Virgil Soape

Graveside services for Roy Virgil Soape, 99, Douglass, formerly of Arp, will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, September 23, at Mason Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Harden officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Soape died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his residence in Douglass. He was born December 13, 1916 in Angus to the late Roy H. and Lillian Fesmire Soape. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in the 9th Army under General Bradley during the Battle of The Bulge and married Maxine Parker December 27, 1939 in Arp. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for Lonestar Gas and TXU. Besides his parents, Mr. Soape was also preceded by a grandson, Stephen Scott Soape, two brothers, Wesley H. Soape and Donald L. Soape, and three sisters, Beatrice Tramel, Katherine White, and Dorothy Whiteside. Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Maxine Soape, Douglass; a son, Jerry Wayne Soape and his wife Barbara, League City; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tracia Leigh Gardiner and Richard Gardiner, Douglass; a great granddaughter, Sidney Gardiner; and great grandson, Rex Gardiner. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
