Obituary of James Amos

Services for James D. Amos, 65, Bullard, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 31 at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with Reverend Bennie Portwood officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Amos died Thursday, July 28, 2011, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born August 27, 1945, in Gilmer to the late James Wilson Amos and Lois Elvira Gage Amos. He had 15 years of military service in the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam war and in the National Guard.  He worked for Old Dominion Freight Company in Dallas and Tyler. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Hilltop Country Club. Mr. Amos was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He married Nell Rae Keel, in Gilmer, February 7, 1967. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nell Rae Amos, Bullard; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Bean, Bemidji, Minnesota, Chris Bean, Addison, Jim Amos, Bullard, and Randy and Rema Barnett, Jacksonville; a daughter, Robbin Gibson, Phoenix, Arizona; a brother, Roy Amos, Hawkins; an aunt, Alma Fitzgerald, Big Sandy; five grandchildren; and three nieces. Pallbearers will be Pat Moore, Larry Patillo, Roger Chestly, Billy Fuller, Bill Arnold and Jerry McPhearson.
