Obituary of Claudia Fair Gwynn
Services for Claudia Fair Gwynn, 81, Overton, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at the First Baptist Church, Overton with Reverend Doctor Charles Paschall officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Claudia passed away, Monday, February 8, 2016 at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. She was born March 28, 1934 in Oakland, California to the late Joe H Baker Jr. and Martha Ellis Fair Baker Cleveland. She moved with her 1st husband, Myron McCartor, Ph.D. (deceased), from Goodwell, Oklahoma to Overton and has lived in Overton for 48 years. She married her husband, Donald Eugene Gwynn, Ph.D. , on November 30, 1979 in Overton. She had her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech University and her Masters Degree from Texas Eastern University (now UT Tyler) in Early Childhood Education. A 1st grade teacher at Leveretts Chapel for many years, she was an avid seamstress and, before receiving her Master's degree, she owned and ran the Rocking M Nursery School in her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Overton, the Queen Price Garden Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved to sing and sang in church and school choirs from her childhood through college at Texas Tech and continued to sing in her church choir and to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren until she didn't have enough breath.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Doug Gwynn, her brother, Joe Henry Baker, and her sister Mary Elizabeth Clark.
Survivors include her husband, Don Gwynn, Overton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Mark Phillips, Arp, Tracy and Paul Wehrmann, Dallas and Susan Gwynn, Keller; nine grandchildren, Tamra Cox, Tara McFarland, Ty Phillips, Makennah Phillips, Anna Wehrmann, Joseph Wehrmann, Rose Wehrmann, Natalie Gwynn and Cooper Collins; six great-grandchildren, Sterling Cox, Stetson Cox, Gunner Whitfield, Ella Whitfield, Giavonna Villanueva and Olivia McBride and numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Mark Phillips, Ty Phillips, Josh Cox, Juan Villanueva, Paul Wehrmann, Joseph Wehrmann, Paul Clark and William McCarter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Baker, Clifford Baker, David Baker, Jason Baker, Jon Baker, Chris Baker, Bill Brown, George Leal and Zachary Crumpton
Visitation will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday, February 12 at the funeral home.
