Aunt Ann, Cousins David and Tony,
Just wanted you to know why I'm not at the funeral today. I had a steroid injection in my hip because I was barely able to walk. The steroids caused my blood pressure and blood sugars to be elevated to such a degree that I was unable to drive myself to the funeral today as I had hoped. I'll be coming to East Texas soon to visit with all of you though as soon as my hip gets better. Uncle Horace was the one who stepped in for my daddy after his death and walked me down the aisle. He's always been very special in my heart and I know we loved one another very much.
Love always,
Claudia Mitchell-England (Horace's first-born niece)

Horace Mitchell was the first real guitar player I met when I was 14 years old. They had just move next door to us on Amy Lane in Tyler. I had became friends with David and had began sitting in with him and Horace playing music together. I stole some of my first guitar licks from him and David. These were some of the best times of my life. Rest in Peace Horace. Be sure and hunt up Ole Hank Williams, maybe he will let you carry his guitar case around again.
