Obituary of Avis Patterson

Services for Avis Patterson, 90, Arp are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, July 23, at the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick and Reverend Duane Petty officiating. Burial will follow in Mason Cemetery, Arp, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mrs. Patterson died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in a Tyler hospice facility. She was born September 8, 1920, in the Corinth Community of Van Zant County to the late Claude L. and Clara Crim Smith. She married Warren 'Pat' Patterson November 26, 1941, in Wichita Falls and moved to Arp in 1983 from Tyler. She was a beautician and enjoyed cooking and flowers. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, the Women's Missionary Union and the Senior Citizens Club. She had also served as a Sunday school teacher for over forty years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patterson was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack C. Smith and a sister, Frances Rogers. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Warren 'Pat' Patterson, Arp; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Linda Patterson, Whitehouse; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Frances and Russ Petty, Arp, Patricia Ann and Joe Weigel, Plano and Linda Kay and Bob Harrington, Chapel Hill; a brother, Harry D. Smith, Franklin; five grandchildren, Richard Duane Petty, Matt Harrington, Josh Harrington, Kim Patterson, and Stephanie Patterson; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, July 22.
