Obituary of Julia Marian Powell

Funeral services for Julia Patterson Powell, 84 of Plano, will be held 1:00 pm Friday, October 2, 2015 at Cottle Funeral Home Chapel, Troup, with officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery in Troup under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home. Julia Marian Powell passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 in McKinney, Texas. She was born on August 11, 1931 in Petersburg, Texas to Carroll Patterson and Julia Gambrell Patterson. Julia graduated from Kilgore High School and attended college at Tyler Commercial. Julia eventually moved to Lubbock, Texas where she worked as an administrative assistant for Lubbock Independent School District. She was always a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Julia Patterson, four brothers and five sisters. Ms. Powell is survived by two daughters, Patti Simmons and her husband Steven of Plano, Carol Scrimshaw and her husband John of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, LA (George) Patterson and wife Carol of Allen; one sister, Eulalia Lacy of Pasadena; four grandchildren, John (Tres) Scrimshaw III, Chelsea Scrimshaw, Matthew Simmons, and Ashley Simmons. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to service at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Troup Library, 102 S. Georgia Street, Troup, Texas 75789.
