Obituary of Betty Jane Lacy
Services for Betty Jane Scoggins Lacy, 75, Mesquite, are scheduled for 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend Jim Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup.
Mrs. Lacy passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at her home.
She was born in Pecan Gap on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1935 to the late Arthur Monroe Scoggins and Ollie Mae Tevis Scoggins.
She married John Melvin Lacy, on August 30, 1957. They had two children, William Ray Lacy and Leigh Ann Lacy.
Mrs. Lacy was the Valedictorian of the 1953 class of Pecan Gap High School. She worked at Oak Cliff Savings & Loan until the birth of her first child and was a homemaker. She was a Girl Scout leader and active member at Casa View Baptist Church for many years. Currently a member at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all she loved so dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother Odell Scoggins and sisters, Judy Shipman, Frances Holcomb and Zelma Burt.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Melvin Lacy, Mesquite; a son, William Ray Lacy, Kemah; a daughter, Leigh Ann Lacy; Fredericksburg; six grandchildren, Will Lacy, John Lacy, Kristen Lacy, and their mother Karen Lacy, and Jordan Vasquez, Ariana Vasquez, and Annsley Vasquez; a great-granddaughter, McKynzie Lacy; two sisters, Thelma Roberson, Garland and Louise Gibson,Temple; a brother, Harry Scoggins, Detroit, Tx; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who are dear to her heart as well.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Vasquez, Will Lacy, John Lacy, Bryan Lacy, David Scoggins and Matias Scoggins.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to American Cancer Society, Attention: Pancreatic Cancer Research; American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
