Obituary of Bettye Walker Barton
Service for Bettye Walker Barton, 92, Overton, will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 29, 2015 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ryan Jouett officiating. Burial will follow in Overton City Cemetery.
Bettye Walker Barton left on her last big adventure on August 22, 2015. She was born August 4, 1923, near Bullard, Texas, and was the youngest child of the late Hal Walker and Janie Sherwood Dumas. She graduated from Bullard High School and played on the girls basketball team which went to State. She attended the Federal Institute in Tyler and moved to Houston to work in the early years of WWII.
Bettye and CB Barton were married September 6, 1942 in Houston and were late to their own wedding when it was discovered they’d left the marriage license at a relative’s house. After the wedding, they rode the train to Tallahassee, Florida, as that was C.B.’s next assignment. He had joined the Army Air Corps in 1940, and thus they began their 23-year career. Bettye followed C.B. to each base assignment, making a home for him and the children.
Bettye told many stories about their different assignments, being stationed in Georgia, Alabama, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Louisiana and even England. Their final assignment was Loring Air Force Base, Maine where they spent six long winters! After retirement, they moved to Lake Striker near Henderson, Texas and later they moved to Overton, Texas. Wherever they moved, they got involved in a church; both singing in the choir. C. B. passed away in 1996 and in 1999 Bettye moved to Georgetown, Texas. She joined the First Baptist Church of Georgetown and became involved in her Sunday School and Friday Folks. She also joined the Study Club of Georgetown.
Bettye loved to travel, and she always said ”Go “was her middle name. She took trips to Europe and to the west coast of the U.S. with friends. In 2010, she took her children and their spouses to England to see where they had been stationed. She loved to read and to antique. Many happy hours were spent at the Canton Flea Market and antique malls.

Barton Jr and wife Sue of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Mikel Moran Ranly and husband Steven of Troy, Marc Moran and wife Allyson of Highland Village, Tommy Moran of Dallas, Amanda Barton Jouett and husband Ryan of Bryan, and Aaron Barton and wife Sally of San Antonio.
