Obituary of Jessie Mae Burks

Services for Jessie Mae Burks, 93, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 17 at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with Reverend Doctor Charles Paschall officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Burks died Friday, July 15, 2011, in an Overton nursing home after a short illness. She was born April 9, 1918, in Troup to the late Charles Frances Kee and Mary Elizabeth Richardson Kee. She was a lifetime resident of East Texas. She married William H. 'Bill' Burks in Warren, Arkansas November 9, 1942. He preceded her in death February 24, 1995. Mrs. Burks was a member of the Queen Price Garden Club, Overton. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 597, Henderson.  She was a homemaker who was a great cook and loved gardening. Mrs. Burks was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Overton, where she sang in the choir. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and was the last of ten children. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Alice Sims, Overton, Richard and Lanette Burks and Roger and Debby Burks, all of Longview; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wyletta and Ron Brown, Mesquite and Mary Ann Chester, Overton; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of the First Baptist Church, Overton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Saturday, July 16.
