Obituary of William 'Bill' Zack Gatewood

Military graveside services for William Zack ‘Bill’ Gatewood, Jr., 93, Troup, will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Williams Cemetery near Chapel Hill. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Gatewood died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in Tyler. He was born September 28, 1921 in Manila, Arkansas, to the late William Zack Gatewood Sr. and Viola Madeline Gentry Gatewood. He lived most all his life in the East Texas area and he is a veteran of the US Army where he service from 1939 to 1945 in the 2nd infantry division in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. He worked in the oil fields and love spending time with his grandchildren Besides his parents, Mr. Gatewood was also preceded in death by his wife, Mona Ray Gatewood, a son, Gene Seley, three sisters, Ruby Gatewood, Viola Devirse and Lavetra Cox. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, William Lewis and Melinda Gatewood, Deadwood, Kenneth and Annie Seley, Troup, and Michael Seley, Langville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Mona Ann Burch, Bridgeport, Joyce and Bobby Starkey, Avenger, and Karen Papriezarie, Dallas; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Seley, Lonny Seley, Dennis Saddler, Billy Vernon, Ralph Johnson, Sonny Gill, and Butch Breashears. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, August 21, 2015 at the funeral home.
