Obituary of Betty Sue Hicks
Funeral services for Betty Bain Hicks, 63, of Whitehouse will be held at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 am, with Reverend Daylon Hicks officiating and interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup.
Mrs. Hicks passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 in Tyler, Texas. Betty was born on March 6, 1952 in Overton, Texas to Jim Bain and Thelma Moose Bain. Betty grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Crozier Tech High School in downtown Dallas, 1970. Mrs. Hicks was working as a machinist in April for Cooper Airmotive near Dallas Love Field when she met her husband David. On June 11, 1976 David L. Hicks Jr and Betty were married for life in the spirit of the Lord.
Mr. and Mrs. Hicks then moved to Troup, Texas in September of 1976 and remained residents of Smith County. Betty started working as a machinist for General Electric in 1977 and continued to work at the Tyler plant as it changed hands with Trane and then with Ingersoll Rand until she retired in 2014.
Betty and David spent their 39th wedding anniversary together on June 11, 2015, at ContinueCARE Hospital with the support of the loving staff on the ICU wing along with the other support groups at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital, Tyler.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her father, Jim Myrt Bain; 3 siblings, Carolyn Bain, Jimmie Bain and Tommy Bain; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Tupa Hicks.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by her husband, David L. Hicks, Jr., 2 children, David L. Hicks III of Whitehouse and Kelli Hicks Dykes of Arp, her mother, Thelma Bain and sister Vonniceil Long, both of Whitehouse, her son-n-law, Jessie Dykes and father-in-law, Capt. D L Hicks, of Troup. Betty left 3 grandchildren, Bry-Ann Dykes, Tommy Dykes and Kinley Dykes. These children were the love of her life and Betty fought long and hard through several medical ailments and much suffering to spend as much time with them as possible.
Betty Hicks was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a mother to children other than her own. Mikey Covey, Keisha Jones Steincipher and Amber Polozola Petty also called Betty “mom”.
Pallbearers will be Mikey Covey, Jessie Dykes, Rodney Steincipher, David Sampson, Paul Sampson and Randy Fields.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at the Cottle Funeral Home in Troup on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
