Obituary of Harry Hamilton

Services for Harry G. Hamilton, Sr., 79, Overton, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, July 16, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with Reverend M.H. Klink, D.L. Stewart and Ed Messersmith officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery, near Troup. Mr. Hamilton died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in a Henderson hospital. He was born June 8, 1932, in Cherokee County to the late John Alfred and Ruth Hall Hamilton. He had been a lifetime resident of East Texas. Mr. Hamilton was a food broker for Russell-Moss for 30 years and was employed by the Overton Golf Course for 10 years where he also served on the Board of Directors and he holds the Overton Course record of 59 for a 29 and 30 on 18 holes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and married Shirley Rothrock May 1, 1954, in Concord. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the of the Church of the Nazarene. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Murl Hamilton and Joe Hamilton. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Hamilton, Overton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harry Hamilton, Jr. and Kathy Hamilton, Henderson and Mickey Hamilton, Overton; five brothers, Jess Hamilton, Jacksonville, Mel Hamilton, Texarkana, Fred Hamilton and Sammy Hamilton, both of Troup and Gary Hamilton, Tyler; a sister, Nelda Brady, Henderson; four grandchildren, Holly Hamilton, April Dygert, Tim Hamilton and Matthew Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Dygert; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Jeff Berryhill, Ken Hamilton, Tim Hamilton, Matthew Hamilton, Gregg Hamilton, Davey Hamilton, and Chris Brady. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, July 15.
