James M. Evans
Mr. James M. Evans, age 93, lifelong resident of the Grapevine Community in San Augustine County, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in San Augustine.
James was born to Sarah Ruby (Gregory) Evans and John Marshall Evans on February 13, 1922, in San Augustine County, Texas. James married the love of his life, Norean (Hightower) Evans on April 22, 1941 and were married almost 65 years until she preceded him on March 22, 2006. James worked for over 50 years as a Logger in the Timber Industry. James farmed all his life, providing a good life for his family. He was a charter member of the Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and anything else that needed to be done.
Those who cherish his memory include his children, James Elton Evans of San Augustine; Charles Evans, and his wife, Barbara of San Augustine; Maxine Rogers and her husband, Billy of San Augustine; Pat Adkins and her husband, Carrol of San Augustine and Calvin Evans, and his wife, Sue of Troup; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Norean (Hightower) Evans; Son, David Earl Evans, Sr.; Daughter-in-law, Homer Lee Evans; along with 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Pallbearers will include Michael Evans, Kenny Evans, Shannon Evans, Charles Evans, Jr., Curtis Evans, and Matt Rogers.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Wade Bryan and Bro. Weldon Blackmon officiating with burial in the Dickerson Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas. Visitation will be Friday evening, July 24, 2015, from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas 75972.
