Obituary of Charles Nathan Rhodes, Sr.

DATELINE: TROUP NAME: CHARLES NATHAN RHODES SR. Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Rhodes Sr., 81, Troup, will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in the Cottle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Cheatham officiating. Graveside services will be under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge at the Union Grove Cemetery. Mr. Rhodes, a United States Army Veteran, died Sunday, April 5, 2015, in Tyler. He was born February 26, 1934, in Johntown, to the late Frank and Fanny Henson Rhodes. Charlie worked for Goodyear as a millwright for 30 years before retiring and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He was also a member of the American Legion in Troup and a Master Mason for the Dixie Lodge 272. Charlie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Troup. He loved to hunt and fish on the farm in Johntown. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. He missed and remembered his loving wife of fifty years dearly. Besides his parents, Mr. Rhodes was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lorain Rhodes; three brothers: B.F., Grady, and Dean Rhodes; and one sister; Ruby Rhodes. Survivors include a son, Charles Rhodes Jr. and wife Marla of Troup; a brother, Lynn Ross Rhodes of Johntown; three grandchildren, Robert Adam Rhodes and wife Teia of Troup, Benjamen Doyle Rhodes of Troup, and Elizabeth Rhodes Hopper and husband Jason of Troup; three great grandchildren, Kayden Trevon Rhodes, Brayden Doyle Rhodes, and Addisyn Ruby Hopper; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Adam Rhodes, Benjamen Rhodes, Clark Massey. Jason Hopper, Blue Martin, Gary Martin, Rex Worl, and Sam Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the United Steel Workers of America Local 746. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Services are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. A special thank you to all the wonderful staff of East Texas Hospice for taking such special care of our father.
