Obituary of Leonard Burns
Services for Leonard Burns, 89, Troup, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, July 8 at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend James Cheatham officiating. Burial will be in the Mixon Cemetery, near Troup.
Mr. Burns died Tuesday, July 5, in a Whitehouse nursing home. He was born February 9, 1922, in Jacksonville, to late Harlan Earnest and Ira D. Musick Burns. He was a lifetime resident of the Mixon-Troup area. For the past several years, he had been a resident of Oakbrook Healthcare Center, Whitehouse, where he dearly enjoyed his time living there.
He married Eula Mae Stripling July 12, 1941, in Mt. Selman. She preceded him in death, October 21, 2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Burns retired as service manager from Southwestern Electric in 1984. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Hemby and Irene Armstrong, a son-in-law, Henry Glaspie and a grandson, Jerry Glaspie.
Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Glenda Burns, Whitehouse; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jimmie Bates, Troup; grandchildren and their spouses, Earnie and Lori Glaspie, Baytown, Mike and Laura Glaspie, West Columbia, Eugene and Robin Webb, Arp, Melissa and Richard Jones, Lindale, Jeanette and Dan Harner, Tyler and Anita and Sam Winkles, Lantana; great-grandchildren, Geoffrey and Blaine Glaspie, Randy, Cody and Ashley Winchester, Nathan Webb and Taylor and Devin Mars; and numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Earnie Glaspie, Mike Glaspie, Laura Glaspie, Sam Winkles, Eugene Webb and James Boales.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 7.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to Legacy Hospice and to all the current and former staff of Oakbrook Healthcare Center, Whitehouse for their compassionate care.
