Obituary of Kenneth Reaves

Services for Kenneth Reaves, 86 of New London, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 31, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton with the Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Rusk County Memorial Gardens, Henderson. Mr. Reaves died Thursday, January 29, 2015 in a hospice facility in Tyler. He was born February 23, 1928 in Pittsburg to the late Elton Clifton and Juanita Hughes Reaves. He served in the US Army in the Korean war. He married Verna Lois Howell October 22, 1950 and was a lifelong resident of East Texas. He was co-owner and operator of Reed and Reaves Ford Sales and later Reaves Automotive, both in Overton. He enjoyed Green Acres Baptist Church TV Ministry and looked forward to every Sunday service. Besides his parents, Mr. Reaves was also preceded in death by his wife, Verna Lois Reaves in 2007, a son, Kenneth Reaves in 2006, and a brother and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Lake and Teresa Freeman, all of New London; a sister, Kathlyn Cannon, Sulphur Springs; four grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Sara Lake, Erik and Dana Freeman, Corey Reaves, and Dana Milasinovic; four great grandchildren, Ryan and Aubrey Lake, Maddie Freeman and Andrew Adair; and his beloved pet, his Maltese, ‘JR’; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Clute, Jerry Reaves, Kenneth Freeman, Les Lake, Bubba McFarland, and Harold Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Thompson, Doug Clute, Dickie Still, Bill Davis, Vern Walton, and Wes Bynum.
