Obituary of Vernetta Burns

Services for Vernetta Norville Sanderford Burns, 97, Brady, formerly of Troup, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, July 4, at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend James Lampin officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, near Troup. Mrs. Burns died Thursday, June 30, 2011, in Brady. She was born January 29, 1914, in Waco to the late Roger Monroe Sanderford and Willie Anderson Sanderford and was the fifth of seven children and two sets of twins. She graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University. She graduate with a Bachelor's degree in math from Corpus Christi University in 1958. She taught school in Fort Worth for 10 years. Mrs. Burns married Morris Quinn Burns of Troup, in Waco, May 27, 1935. He preceded her in death July 19, 2001. She served with him in the many churches he pastored throughout Texas. She was a member of the Tyler Church of God. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Roger Maurice Sanderford, her twin, Warren Orville Sanderford, John Benjamin Sanderford and Matthew Anderson Sanderford; and two sisters, Willie Daurice Sanderford and Ohuita Leona Sanderford Hill. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Sue and Rev. Robert Gauer, Brady, Ann and Bryan Brooks, Arlington, Linda and Larry Penland, Hurst and Katheryn OldShield Mukai, Cary, North Carolina; seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, Renée and David Graham, Sugarland, Barbara and Ian Kress, Nassua Bay, Robert James Gauer, Jr. and Kimberly Gauer, San Antonio, William and Jennifer Gauer, Watonga, OK, Dr. Harold and Ina Brooks, Carmel, Indiana, Dr. Annette Brooks and Dr. Christopher Fore, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bill and May Brooks, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tony and Diane Peters, Ponder, Tonya Stewart, Euless, Darrin and Sarina Penland, Hillsboro, OR, Trampas and Darlene Penland, Boyd, Daphne and Steve Celmer, Watagua, Shawna and Gary Shubinsky, Maple Grove, MN, Trudy OldShield, New York, Rachel and Kalla Shark, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Lenual Mukai, Charlotte, North Carolina and Roger Mukai, North Carolina; 32 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Dora Jean Sanderford, Waco and Mary Jo Burns, Lake Charles, LA.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from  8:00 am until service time, Monday, July 4.
