Obituary of Mary Helen Kee
Funeral services for Mary Helen Kee, 91, Troup, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Martin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene with Reverends M.H. Klink, D.L. Stewart and Mark Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Kee died Wednesday, December 17, at her home for 7 years and 9 months, Emeritus Special Care, Henderson. She was born at home November 13, 1923 in Joy Community Gladewater, Texas to the late John Henry Ellis and Erma Pearl Hanson Ellis.
She lived most of her life as a homemaker on a small farm and ranch in Concord Community. She milked the cow, churned the butter, made the biscuits, picked and shelled the peas, “Wrung” the chicken’s neck, then fried it. As a young woman, she and her son traveled by train to San Diego during WWII to bid Quinten goodbye. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Some of her greatest pleasures came from traveling, eating out and playing dominos and games with her and Daddy’s special friends, “The Gophers.”
She married Quinten Homer Kee on July 22, 1940 in Sand Flat Community, Smith County, Texas.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Quinten H. Kee, an infant daughter, Mary Beth Kee and two brothers, Delma R. Ellis and James Henry Ellis.
Mrs. Kee is survived by three sons, Lloyd Ray Kee of Goodsprings Community, Kenneth Gale Kee and wife Ann of New Summerfield, Danny Ellis Kee and wife Jeanne of Concord; a daughter, Faye Beene and husband Larry of Concord ; sister, Emma Jean Philpot of Joy Community; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wes Stites and wife Joyce of Cannon City, Colorado; Carlos and Pauline Kee of Troup, Jean and Beth Kee of Goodsprings, Terri Kee of Kermit and Lillie Kee of Nacogdoches; 10 grandchildren: Cindy Broadway, Larry Kee, Lee Johnson, Anna Aucoin, Jamie Beene, Nicholaus Kee, Billy Cole Kee, Justin Nelson, Jeramie Kee and Jesse Kee; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, December 19.
