Obituary of Thelma Fox Stone

Services for Thelma Fox Stone, 93, New London, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, May 12, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with Reverend Ken Hayman officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New London. Mrs. Stone died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Hospice of East Texas, Tyler. She was born February 3, 1921, in Brock to the late Seth Joseph Fox and Mary Emma Hardaway Fox. She lived most of her life in the East Texas area and moved to New London from Jacksonville in 1965. She graduated from Gaston High School in 1938 and was a secretary for various oil service companies. She had a green thumb, loved gardening and working in her yard. She also was an avid reader. She was a Baptist and a longtime member of London Baptist Church where she was very involved in church work. Besides her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Arlis Franklin Stone, Sr. November 29, 2011, and a sister, Dortha Bellows. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Annette Stone, Rockdale; a daughter, Rise Carol Stone, New London; two brothers, Jimmy Fox, McAllen, and S. J. Fox, Palestine; a sister, Leona Gipson, Athens; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Amie and Matthew King, Pflugerville; two great-grandchildren, Marillah and Edward King; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jeff Teague, Matt King, Randy Arnold, John Hawkins, Larry Stephens, and Steve Wedgeworth. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, May 11, at the funeral home.
