Obituary of Eugene Davis

Funeral services for Eugene O. 'Gene' Davis, 81, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at the First Baptist Church, Arp with Reverend Mike Rice, Josh Croswell and Reverend Dean Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery, Arp under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Davis died Thursday, May 31, 2007 in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born September 16, 1925 in Driggs, Arkansas to the late Perry and Alva Phillips Davis. He married Mary Elvena Cobbs in Driggs November 23, 1943. Mr. Davis retired from Texas Eastman following 22 years of employment. He was an avid fisherman and was known as a legend on Lake Tyler. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Arp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry 'Ollie' Davis, in 1995; a grandson, Kevin Eddington; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Davis, Overton; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Barbara and Don Ray Robinson, Tyler, Jeanie Eddington, Hawkins, Phyllis and Tom Guinn, New London, Neda and Marlow Charlton and Debbie and Stanley Brown, all of Overton; a daughter-in-law, Kim Daniels, Arp; a sister, Mellonee Bennett, Ozark, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Saturday, June 2. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701 or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 448, Arp, TX 75750.
