Obituary of A L Rucker

Funeral services for A.L. Rucker, 87, Troup, will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Cottle Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Clint Covington officiating. Burial will be in the Rucker Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mr. Rucker died Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Tyler. He was born February 14, 1927, in Troup, Texas to the late Joe and Bertha Shaw Rucker. He married Evelyn “Sissy” Boyd April 18, 1948. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Sissy” Boyd Rucker, parents and sister,Ruth Rucker Cook. Mr. Rucker is survived by son, BJ Rucker and wife JoLea of Troup; and daughter, Sonja Rountree and husband Grady of Dallas; grandchildren, Shelly Wilson and husband Ross, of Whitehouse; Brandy Williamson and Josh Rucker both of Troup; great grandchildren, Allyson Wilson, Madison Martin, Brady Wilson and Karsyn Williamson; niece, Phyllis Williams of Kilgore and nephew, Bob Cook of Tyler. A.L. joined the Navy in 1944 serving on the USS Arkansas as a third class Radarman, during the invasion of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Phillippines, where he received two battle stars for bravery and discharged in 1946. He worked for Exxon for 34 years until retirement in 1983. A.L was a Past Master of Dixie Lodge 272 A.F.& A.M. of Troup and was a Founding Member of the Troup Education Foundation. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cole, Calvin Cannon, Ross Wilson, Lance Youngs, John Wayne Covington and Chuck Osborn. Visitation for friends will be 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm , Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Funeral Home. Memorials, if desired can be made to: The Troup Education Foundation, P.O. Box 25, Troup, TX. 75789.
