Obituary of Joella Starks

Graveside services for Joella Starks, 84, Overton, will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 12th in the Overton City Cemetery with Reverend Jason Cowart officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mrs. Starks died Saturday, March 8, 2014 in a Tyler hospital. She was born July 15, 1929 in Hosston, Louisiana to the late Elza Acy and Bertha Mae Nelson Mitchell. She lived most all her life in Overton and graduated Overton High School where she was a majorette in High School. She moved back to Overton from Tyler, where she had lived for 17 years. She worked as a dog groomer for about 25 years and loved gardening, painting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a very caring and giving lady and a member of Rose Heights Church of God, Tyler. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye R. Haynes, three brothers, Claude Mitchell, S.L. Mitchell, and A.C. Mitchell. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Dianna Starks, Flint. and Martin D. and Pat Starks, Henderson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Gail Starks, Overton, and Rita Sharon and Melvin Harvey, Tyler; two brothers, Horace Mitchell, Tyler, and Eugene Mitchell, Longview, a sister, Bernice Kelley, Tyler; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; 4 nieces and 9 nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm, Tuesday, March 11.
